FAQs

I just purchased a vehicle, how do I obtain a title in my name?

You will need the title and your driver license or ID, along with a passed emissions test if applicable. There could be additional paperwork that is needed. It is best to call or swing by to see how we can help. Arizona law does require that you apply for a title within 15 days of purchasing the vehicle.

How do I transfer a vehicle title?

In order to successfully transfer the title of a vehicle, you must complete a title and registration application, have a signed and notarized vehicle title, provide a lien release (when applicable), pay for all fees and provide any other documents that might be required for your specific situation (i.e. original power of attorney, etc.)

I am from out-of-state and would like to register my vehicle in Arizona. What do I need?

Along with your completed and signed Title and Registration application, you will also need an emissions compliance form, a level I vehicle inspection (if you are missing your out-of-state title and/or registration), your out-of-state title and license plates, a lien clearance where applicable, and the proper payment of all fees.

How do I apply for a duplicate title?

If your Arizona car title is lost, mutilated or becomes illegible, you may apply for a duplicate title – as long as you are the owner. Everything on the title must remain the same, including owner name, legal status, lienholder and vehicle information. The only thing you are allowed to change is the address. You can begin the process by completing a Title and Registration Application. You must also surrender the title if it is mutilated or illegible. You can bring everything to a 1 Stop Title Loan location to complete the process.

How do I apply for a Bonded Title?

You will need to get a vehicle inspection done at 1 Stop Title Loans. You will then be guided as your next steps to complete as each case is different.

How do I add/delete a name on my title?

This is the same procedure as a title transfer, if the vehicle is currently registered. If there is a lien on the vehicle that has not been paid off, written permission from the lienholder/lender will be required to add or delete a name.

How do I add/delete a lien on my title?

Complete a title application (including the lien information), submit with the most current title and provide the original lien release from the lienholder/lender (if applicable) with the following:

  • A complete description of the vehicle (year, make, and vehicle identification number).
  • The date the lien was paid in full.
  • Notation or stamp that indicates the lien is paid.
  • The full signature of the lienholder or the lienholder agent.

What are the ownership rights options (legal status) for a title?

When ownership of the vehicle is in more than one name, the “Or, And, And/Or” box on the title application determines which signatures will be required to sell the vehicle or for other actions.

“OR” Legal Status

This ownership is a joint tenancy, with an expressed intent that either of the owners has full authority to transfer ownership of the vehicle, license plates and/or fees, or to record loan information. The owners’ names will appear on the title as in this example: JOHN DOE OR JOE ROSS.

To transfer ownership of the vehicle, license plates and/or fees, or to record loan information, the signature of either party will be accepted. Both signatures are not required. If this legal status is chosen, all owners involved must sign in the Legal Status section.

“AND” Legal Status

This ownership is a tenancy in common. The owners’ names will appear on the title as in this example: JOHN DOE AND JOE ROSS.

To transfer ownership of the vehicle, license plates and/or fees, or to record loan information, the signatures of both parties will be required. In the event of the death of either party, the interest of the deceased party must be handled by probate action, or by completing a Non-probate Affidavit.

“AND/OR” Legal Status

This ownership is a joint tenancy with right of survivorship. The owners’ names will appear on the title as in this example: JOHN DOE AND/OR JOE ROSS.

To transfer ownership of the vehicle, license plates and/or fees, or to record loan information, the signatures of both parties will be required, if both are living. Upon proof of death, the survivor may sign alone.
